Marquette loses to Florida for National Title
Well, at least according to the New York Post. Nice to dream in November. Expectations are insane for this team right now, way too high in my opinion. I think we will struggle early and hopefully come on, but I actually see us not finishing in the top 5 in the Big East.

What are your guys' problems. Not finishing in the top 5 in the BE. You guys have no confidence. Yeah I was at the game against Hillsdale. They stuggled, so what! MU's teams with Dwyane Wade stuggled to.

Marquette was not the only top 25 team to slip by bad teams
-Georgetown over Hartford by 10
-Uconn over Quinnipac by 7
-Ohio State over Loyala(IL) by 12
Come on guys, lets get real, I know Marquette struggled the first game. We know it and they know it. But because they slipped by a D2 team doesn't mean we should think they will fail this year. Does that mean Georgetown, Uconn, and OSU are going to fail this year? I DONT THINK SO!

I think it's how we barely got by Hillsdale that worries people. Poor defense, no inside game, and poor shooting (especially from ALL our star players). These are a few things that doomed us in games last year, and it's not hard to remember how Steve Novak bailed us out and got us excited (and the team pumped up) so many times when he would drain 3's all day. Remember the games when he didn't? We didn't fare so well.
ReplyDeleteI have just as much hope as the next guy, but it's not hard to get worried. But you do have a point, hopefully our guys prove all us early doubters completely wrong.
I'm also guilty for being a little too tough on our team. There should be no guilt in expecting more out of our all-start trio though...James went 3 for 15??
ReplyDeleteI've been to all the scrimmages & all the games thus far, and have yet to see Lazar Hayward hit an outside jumper. I've heard alot about his shooting ability...I'm just surprised we having seen anything yet...not even in the scrimmage.
Huge expectations, but the sports writers, coaches and fans must see something special in this team. Lets cheer them on.
ReplyDeleteno inside game? against Hillsdale all they seemed to want to do was drive. more like no perimeter game. the passing was horrible and the shooting was just as bad.
ReplyDeleteLets try to be optimistic. My prediction against Idaho State tonight is Marquette wins, 83-57. I'm being serious they are going to come out crisp and look like the real #16 Marquette.
ReplyDeleteI love the fervor and the passion everyone, but it was only one game. Okay, granted, they could have played a lot better. Bottom line is that they won and we all fell into the trap the sports writers and hypesters all laid out for us. You have Dominic on loads of preseason All-American squads, SI touting Marquette as having the fourth best backcourt in the country, Preseason ranking in the top 20. It's great to have the National attention, but let's be honest. Having expectations are dangerous because if it doesn't go the way we expected we're disappointed. It was our expectation, and perhaps the team's expectation, that Hillsdale would roll over. They didn't and we're disappointed because we didn't beat them by 20 pts. It's way to early to start worrying. Talk to me if we don't make it to Kansas City and/or lose to Maryland-Baltimore County.
ReplyDeletealso, i agree about Lazar...he was touted as novak's replacement in terms of outside shooting...he's had two dunks...that's gotta change...
ReplyDeleteand finally...the new york post could be out of their mind. i think marquette could surprise some people, but national runner-up is a little over the top for my liking, especially this early in the season, when you have teams like UNC, KU, Florida, and (dare I say) Wisconsin with more all around talent (inside and out)...that said, Marquette will beat Wisconsin on December 9th.
I actually think Marquette could easily beat out Pitt or G'town for the Big East title because they're both (or at least Pitt) is capable of falling apart...not likely but certainly possible.

ok...no joke...i'm worried...this team lacks any kind of on the floor leadership, which i think contributes directly to the horrible offensive production. when a leader emerges from this team maybe they'll score more than 60 points. they lack coherence and even if they make it to kansas city, it'll be a quick trip if they keep struggling this bad.

ReplyDeleteI believe we will be a decent team by year end, maybe even a good team. I stand by my prediction, however, that we will not finish in the top 5 of the Big East. I hope very much to be proven wrong.
