Marquette continued on its "taking care of business" parade, beating the Mastodons by a bunch of point on a sleepy Monday at the Bradley Center to go 8-1 on the season.
Dominic James was superlative, scoring 17 in 29 minutes, with 6 assists, including a pretty 4 point play. Hayward, Matthews, and Coobie all hit double digits in the 24 point drubbing. Added into the mix was 39 deflections and a whopping 50 rebounds.
Trend Blackledge had some very nice minutes, with 4 rebounds and a block and two steals in 10 minutes.
A definite concern is Marquette's FT shooting. MU went 12-23 tonight, as well as 21-38 two days ago. This cannot continue when Big East games start, 3 weeks from now.

Loved the lineup of Acker, James, Mathews, McNeal and Hayward. Also liked that version subbing McNeal for Cubbie.
Dead accurate. A TCB game.
And since it hasn't been mentioned enough...I love Lazar Hayward's game.
Crean laying the smack down in the post-game, though. "We'll be playing four guards and Lazar if Ooze and Burke keep playing like they did tonight."
Lazar Hayward has been my favorite player for the past two years now and I can't talk enough about his presence down low for this team. He generates offensive rebounds while taking defensive assignments on men who have four or five inches on him.
Although his numbered is rarely called on the offensive side of the ball he makes do with 13 a game being the third option on offense.
His intensity for the game is always high and he plays the game with flash. I can't wait until his senior year!
I had a few comments about the game vs. IPFW
- The team needs to consistently make free throws (D James and his missed technical was annoying)
- Wes Matthews needs to find a middle range game. Every time he gets the ball he goes to the hoop.
- Christopherson can help the team out with his shooting, but he seems to be tenative on launching up a shot. (except the big blocked shot at the end)
- I would like to see the 2nd subs in at the 5-6 minute mark if MU has a 20+ lead in these cup cake games. These youngsters need more time on the court to develop
